Custom Equipment Hauling Fleet Built for the Load

For M.A.P. Sewer and Waste Services, hauling heavy equipment like CAT scrapers and excavators is part of the job. However, during Alberta’s spring road ban season, getting that equipment to the site becomes challenging. Weight restrictions limit what can be moved and when, and tight city streets add another layer of complexity. M.A.P. needed heavy equipment trailers that would let them keep working without delays, be lightweight enough to meet seasonal restrictions, and strong and agile enough to handle large equipment in busy urban areas.

The Challenge

M.A.P. needed to move large, heavy equipment across job sites year-round, even in spring, when road bans limit how much weight can be hauled. Their crews operate within a 50 to 100 km radius of Edmonton, often working in city environments where tight space and turning radius matter. Standard trailer builds couldn’t meet the weight requirements for the road ban season or navigate city streets easily. They needed a custom heavy haul trailer solution that would let them move key equipment without risking downtime, compliance issues, or extra permit costs.

The Solution

Accusteel worked closely with the M.A.P. team to design two purpose-built trailers: a 48-wheeler and a smaller 32-wheeler featuring a steering dolly. Both were engineered for reduced tare weight, allowing them to meet provincial road ban requirements while still hauling full-sized CAT 7-series scrapers, dozers, and excavators. The 32-wheeler’s steering functionality allowed M.A.P. to access tight urban sites easily.

These builds weren’t just made to spec; they were designed in collaboration with M.A.P.’s team to fit real-world routes, loads, and seasonal demands. The result is a set of trailers that not only solve immediate challenges but also support the long-term efficiency of their fleet. With lighter builds and more cost-effective handling, M.A.P. can run leaner and haul smarter year after year.

The Results

With their new trailers in rotation, M.A.P. can confidently move heavy equipment, even during road ban season. The lightweight construction helps avoid costly delays and permit issues, while the added maneuverability supports safer hauling in tight quarters. These custom builds have become a key part of their fleet, solving operational challenges and helping the company stay efficient, compliant, and ready for whatever the job throws at them.
