Custom Ice Road Trailers Built for Extreme Conditions
J&S Contracting is one of the largest transport operators in the Northwest Territories, with a fleet built for some of the toughest conditions in North America. From hauling equipment out of remote diamond mines to moving large loads across the continent, their custom OEM heavy haul trailers must perform in extreme cold and on some of the most demanding routes imaginable. That includes the seasonal ice roads that connect the North, where failure is not an option.
The Challenge
J&S needed heavy haul trailers that would meet strict weight regulations while performing reliably in sub-zero temperatures. These trailers had to be engineered specifically for the Ice Road season, when the cold stresses frames, components, and connections. There was no room for error. Every trailer had to carry maximum payload safely, stay compliant with shifting road conditions, and deliver performance proven over thousands of kilometres of winter travel.
In addition to ice road performance, the trailers also needed to function effectively on standard highways and long-haul routes throughout Canada and the U.S. The solution had to balance strength, flexibility, and cold-weather resilience while staying within regulatory limits.

Each unit was engineered with cold-weather operation in mind, using materials, structural reinforcements, and axle setups proven to hold up under the pressures of ice road hauling.
These trailers were built to spec and field-tested in real northern conditions.
