Improving Bulk Material Handling With a Custom Wood Chip Trailer Solution
When a sawmill operation needed a safer, more efficient way to transport large volumes of wood chip by-product to a nearby power generation facility, Accusteel developed a custom industrial trailer designed for the demands of the logging and forestry industry.
Replacing a fleet of traditional end-dump trailers, this purpose-built ejector trailer delivered improved stability, faster unloading, and a more reliable material flow process for high-volume wood chip transport.
The Challenge
The customer’s existing operation relied on multiple end-dump trailers to move bulk wood chips between facilities. While functional, the process created several operational challenges, including:
- Managing multiple trailers to support daily material movement
- Stability concerns when unloading on uneven forestry and industrial terrain
- Maintaining consistent delivery schedules between facilities
- Safely transferring high volumes of wood fibre into the conveyor system
The operation required an industrial trailer solution capable of handling greater capacity while improving safety and efficiency during hauling and unloading.
The Solution
Accusteel engineered a custom wood chip ejector trailer built to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability throughout the entire transport process. While traditional end-dump trailers require the trailer body to be raised during unloading, the custom ejector trailer uses a hydraulic pushout system to discharge material while maintaining a lower center of gravity.
This custom pushout trailer included:
- High-Capacity Material Transport: Designed to replace the workload of multiple end-dump trailers and simplify daily hauling operations
- Improved Stability During Unloading: A low center of gravity eliminated the need to raise the trailer body, reducing risk on uneven terrain
- Controlled Ejector Discharge System: Provided consistent unloading directly onto the conveyor system to support continuous material flow
By focusing on the entire material handling process, Accusteel delivered an ejector-trailer solution that helped the customer address operational challenges beyond transportation alone.
